1 Professional Development Opportunities – ASM Teachers

Professional development opportunities

Aside from courses or professional development opportunities that are suggested by the Principal based on classroom observations, the Curriculum, MAP, and Survey Committees’ suggestions to the SIP Committee often include suggestions for professional development programs that staff should take.

Observing and being observed is also a powerful learning tool for teachers, especially for novice teachers. It is an integral part of teachers’ professional development as it helps teachers to learn from each other, to develop a more reflective approach to their teaching and to identify development goals. Teachers at ASM have a positive attitude to peer observation as the shared sense of collaboration enhances the satisfaction and performance of individual teachers and the team. As of 2024/25, eleot certified teachers will be required to do at least three peer observations with the eleot observation tool per year. Each certified teacher will upload their results on the eleot platform.

There are at times useful courses that are offered throughout universities and institutions in Macedonia (1 or 2 day courses to week courses) that are both interesting and extremely useful for teachers. If a teacher becomes aware of a course that they would like to attend, please inform the Principal/school office. If the course on offer is deemed to be of worth for teachers and students at ASM, the school will cover the cost of the course.

Often, after a teacher has taken part in a professional development course, we may encourage that teacher to present a Professional Learning Community (PLC) session to other teachers in the school.
